Our Story

"Menstrual Products for All"

Co-founders Yochi and Makenzie, now university students, launched Project Pink Tax in their sophomore year of high school in 2021. At their all-girls school, discussions about menstruation were common, but it wasn't until they conducted their own research that they became aware of period poverty. Before this discovery, their understanding of poverty centered on the lack of food, shelter, and clothing. They had never considered the immense challenge of managing menstrual hygiene without a reliable supply of pads, tampons, or liners.

As they delved into real stories and watched videos of individuals who had to forgo food to afford menstrual products or resort to using socks, tissues, and newspapers instead, Yochi and Makenzie were moved to take action. They were determined to alleviate this burden, starting with their own community. Thus, they began fundraising efforts to purchase menstrual products for those in need.

Hey there!

My name is Yochi Hobson

A little bit about me: since childhood I’ve always been passionate about rectifying issues related to poverty and the environment, as I remember always finding small ways to combat these problems in my day-to-day life. My journey is guided by a mission to leverage business as a force for good, so it is so rewarding to know that I’m making a strong impact with my work at Project Pink Tax. Also, I used to be a competitive gymnast so I love to stay active! I'm currently into figure skating, graphic design, collaging, and anything sustainability related.

Hey there!

My name is Makenzie Reilly

I am a lover of music, analytics, and all things sports. I have a passion for helping others, especially those that are marginalized. I want to make my mark on the world by having a positive impact on others. My love for travel has driven my desire to understand other cultures so that I can be a more inclusive person and leader. Also, I love to go to concerts, especially to see Harry Styles! I have already seen him 9 times!
